* [PATCH] r8169: Drop tp arg from rtl8169_tx_vlan_tag()
From: Kirill Smelkov @ 2012-11-10 17:11 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Francois Romieu; +Cc: Realtek linux nic maintainers, netdev, Kirill Smelkov

Since eab6d18d (vlan: Don't check for vlan group before
vlan_tx_tag_present.) we don't check tp->vlgrp and thus tp is not needed
in this function.

* [PATCH] wanrouter: Remove it and the drivers that depend on it
From: Joe Perches @ 2012-11-10 14:20 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Rob Landley, Harry Wei, Jeff Dike, Richard Weinberger,

Cc: Russell King, Ralf Baechle, Benjamin Herrenschmidt,

Remove wanrouter as it's obsolete and has not been updated
by sangoma since 2.4.3 or so and it's not used anymore.

Remove obsolete cyclomx drivers.
Update defconfig files that enable wanrouter.
Update files that include now deleted wanrouter bits.

* [PATCH/RFC] iproute2: drop libresolv
From: Andreas Henriksson @ 2012-11-10 12:22 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: netdev; +Cc: Stephen Hemminger

Hello!

While building the iproute package in Debian I get warnings from
package helpers like this:

dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: package could avoid a useless dependency if debian/iproute/sbin/tc debian/iproute/usr/bin/lnstat debian/iproute/bin/ip debian/iproute/bin/ss debian/iproute/sbin/bridge debian/iproute/sbin/rtmon were not linked against libresolv.so.2 (they use none of the library's symbols)

The -lresolv in ./Makefile seems to come from pre-historic times (before
iproute2 git history, possibly from libc5/pre-glibc days).
I couldn't find out if/why there was any reason for linking to libresolv.
Does anyone know if there are any valid reasons for keeping it still?

If not, I'd be happy to see it go.... while at it I also removed includes
of <resolv.h> which I also couldn't find any reason for, but this is
just an added bonus of the patch (and there are probably more unneeded
includes that could be dropped in the same sources).

The at91_ether driver in net-next does not need to be change since it
all mach includes has already been removed by other patches and it
includes linux/platform_data/macb.h directly.

What tree was these patches based on?
The at91_ether driver changes has been in linux-next for a long while now.

I sent two replies to Krzysztof's series starting with [PATCH v3 0/7]
in Message-Id: <1352240222-363-1-git-send-email-krzysiek@podlesie.net>

The first was pointing out a problem; the second was a [PATCH v3 8/7]
which fixed the problem I'd pointed out. It wasn't clear to me that more
context would be needed. In particular, [PATCH v3 8/7] was a reply to
0/7, just as the other patches ##1-7 had been.

That's OK. I was hoping for an ack from Chas and/or Krzysztof,
especially as I hadn't tested my patch. So hopefully there'll be a v4
series of 8 patches, including this one... and all from the same person,
which makes it slightly easier to follow :)

Yeah, fcoemon first gets the SAN MAC from the physical device (using
DCBNL) and uses it send out packets for VLAN discovery. After the VLAN
has been discovered, it will create the VLAN device over the physical
device and will try to bring it up. After that, fcoemon will continue
to use the SAN MAC over the VLAN device.

Sure, but in the case that the VLAN device is layered on one of these
FCoE SAN devices, the VLAN device's address isn't validated. Which
presumably means it's not going to be used at all...

What does the VLAN device actually do in this case? Is it a way of
setting a VID to be used for the FCoE encapsulation?

Ben.

No, it is not being ignored. We validate the VLAN's regular MAC address
first. If it is invalid, check further to see if the real device has a
SAN MAC address.

* [PATCH] vxlan: Fix error that was resulting in VXLAN MTU size being 10 bytes too large
From: Alexander Duyck @ 2012-11-09 23:35 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: netdev; +Cc: davem, shemminger

This change fixes an issue I found where VXLAN frames were fragmented when
they were up to the VXLAN MTU size. I root caused the issue to the fact that
the headroom was 4 + 20 + 8 + 8. This math doesn't appear to be correct
because we are not inserting a VLAN header, but instead a 2nd Ethernet header.
As such the math for the overhead should be 20 + 8 + 8 + 14 to account for the
extra headers that are inserted for VXLAN.

* [PATCH net-next] 8021q: validate SAN MAC address
From: Michael Chan @ 2012-11-09 22:54 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: davem; +Cc: netdev, Michael Chan

Some bnx2x multi-function devices are configured for FCoE only in
a PCI function and only has a SAN MAC address. The current code
will fail ->ndo_validate_addr() when a VLAN device is brought up
over such a device.

Check the real device's dev_addrs[] for a valid SAN MAC address
when validating the MAC address if the regular MAC address is not
valid.
