Hello,

static , like 50 % for FTP and 25 % SMTP, 5% ICMP ... what is best way to
do it ?

(cut'n'paste my reply from "Re: Best way to put a quota on masquaraded connections" :^)
http://www.linuxguruz.org/iptables/howto/2.4routing.html might be a good
start, the Linux 2.4 Advanced Routing HowTo. It explains different queuing
approaches available, and creation of routing rules with iproute2. (among
other things) You can use iptables to add mangle-prerouting rules that set
TOS for various packet types/sources/destinations, then use some routing
rules and a queuing discipline to prioritize and/or limit them.

That version of the LARTC Howto is older than dirt -- the actively
maintained version may be found at http://www.lartc.org

I recommend using MARK target in netfilter (mangle table), and "fw"
option in tc filter (see http://lartc.org/) to dispatch marked packets
to classes with differents priority
I also recommend HTB queuing discipline
(http://luxik.cdi.cz/~devik/qos/htb/)
which is much simlpler than CBQ.

You might want to look at this interesting alternative
First let me preface I am not in any way in
competition with the other published tools avaiable to
Linux, such as the LARTC and Netfilter I fully support
their efforts; however I have been working on a
traffic shaping tool that may be of interest, and yes
it does overlap some existing utilities. But it
differs by attempting to be totally turn key, (among
other things) It is designed for the user that does
not want to get down to the level of %50 FTP, %20 HTTP
or whatever.
The tool is getting into a serious beta trial for
some Public school districts in the state of
Washington and yes it is all open source. I'd still
call it in the proof on concept stage and gaining
momentum
The details can be found www.apconnections.net

Hi list,
Is anyone aware of any software that can automatically throttle people's
bandwidth, based on how much traffic they have transferred in a month?
So for example, let's say that a user has a total allowance of 100GB per
month. In total, that would be equivalent to a steady 319Kbps. However,
let's say that I wanted to allow the first 50GB at 638Kbps, then the
next 25GB at 300Kbps, then..... (You get the idea)
Thanks

Hello,
I can make this type of software for you freely.
I have roughly idea few months ago . . . and also implemented it approximately.
but for in market I will design it as according to you or say as a
general utility tool.
I think, an easy job.
I will try . . .
First for Linux OS in either java or bash
then on window.
