So as you may know RME announced there will be no open source drivers
for their firewire products, due to (IMO valid) IP concerns.  They are
certain to get a flood of hatemail from Linux users.

My suggestion was that someone on this list might want to be the voice
of reason and offer to write a closed source ALSA driver, under NDA, for
reasonable compensation of course.  I can't see why they would say no,
unless they are already working on one.

Maybe if they set a precedent that the Linux audio community are not all
RMS worshipping zealots then we would have more supported hardware.  I
think Nvidia proved that Linux users will get behind you if you have
superior hardware and quality drivers, even if they are binary only.

Alternatively, someone on this list might take their bus analyzer for a drive.
