I think you should rather teach your customer to use yocto properly,
rather than exchange SDKs and pre-built ipks with them. Write a proper
recipe for the component, and explain to them how to use it.

I was planning to used the normal SDK becuase the eSDK is 5 times bigger for my custom board ~13 GB, I was looking for similar function to install only few packages on the top of the normally SDK without rebuilding again. This would be helpful for the application developer who have no possibility to bitbake a new SDK !! and receiveing incremental updates.

They need to start using yocto simply. You can share sstate with them
so they don't have to rebuild everything.

Hi Alex,

I would be happy if everyone can learn yocto. but in the real world is different.
We have application developer who is only looking to work with SDK without knowing how to build with yocto.

One option is to use also eSDK but in my case is not applicable.

They don't have to 'learn yocto' or use gigantic esdk tarballs or even
regular sdk tarballs. They only need to replicate a yocto environment
(blindly following your instructions) and then set up a SDK
environment directly from there (again blindly following your
instructions). Then things will work exactly as they do with SDK
tarball, except you don't need to pass tarballs and ipks around, and
they can easily add things they need to the SDK environment:

... and then there are specifics about what commands you need to issue
to make it happen.

I still don't agree with all these 'application developers' who can't
be bothered to learn at least a little bit about how their work is
integrated into a complete system, but you can help them self-isolate
from that if they really insist.

If I understand it correctly, you want to update your SDK from some 
binary package feeds. I'd say it's possible, because it's basically 
about installing packages into some directory and doing some relocation, 
but you'll need to write some tool to do the update work and place that 
tool in your SDK. There's no official tool in Yocto as far as I know. 
Not sure if someone else has written such a tool.

this is also my thought, and I was think to use opkg after sourcing the sdk script.
But was not working

opkg list
* file_mkdir_hier: Cannot create directory `//usr/local/oe-sdk-hardcoded-buildpath': Permission denied.

I am missing something here!!

For things to work, the package manager will need to have some certain 
abilities. For example, it can accept a parameter which points to the 
database it uses (e.g., --dbpath). I think RPM/dnf have all the ability 
to make things work. I'm not familiar with opkg though. Even with 
RPM/dnf, updating SDK from binary package feeds still needs some tool 
which invokes rpm/dnf, because you'll need to do some relocation or some 
mapping or creating some temp root directory, etc, in that tool.
