Hi
I installed this DLink PCIe cards in the two desktops to create an adhoc
network. Surprisingly, the data rate that I got (verified through Iperf) was
around 1Mbps. All default settings.
Any one faced this issue earlier? Any suggested solutions?
I'm trying to stream video between these machines and need a good
throughput.
Thanks.
Saravanan.

Saravanan,
Thanks for reporting this and testing. As of right now Ad-hoc just has
the initial bits and pieces, we haven't finished it nor tested it
thoroughly. For now you should not rely on it. We will address this
eventually though.
Thanks,
Luis

Louis,
We are in desperate need of ad-hoc networking, any help would be really
appreciated.
When dou you plan to finish the ad-hoc networking?
If you don't know when, who can provide informatin for us about timing?
Is there a possibility to help you with the development of this
functionality?
Do you have any suggestions how we can help to make the development
process shorter?
Thanks,
Robert
Do you have an idea when the ad-hoc capability will be

I hope we'll get it fixed for 27.

Sure, testing and patches.

Try ad-hoc with Jouni's beaconing (AP) patches posted.

Apparently, ad-hoc is broken.
Tomas sent an e-mail to linux-wireless mentioning this.

Hi,
I was testing it on WMP300n V2. I had similar problem, iwconfig shows speed of 1Mbps.The driver was not stable. In the dmesg the message was coming up:
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready
This happened few times.
Also noticed that with new driver (compared to ndiswrapper) its able to see less AP in range (3 compared to 7 using ndiswrapper).
Kind Regards
Amit

Hi Luis,
Thanks for your reply. However I only found one thread on this topic & there is as such no solution. I'm having no such problem with Ralink or Linksys WUSB54G.

Amit, thanks for pointing that out. Just to clarify, are you saying
with the same wireless-testing version you rt2x00 devices are operating
correctly in Ad-hoc?

I also see 1Mb/s from iwconfig with my ar5418, but I don't think this
means anything as my router (Dlink DIR-655) tells me its anywhere
between 100-300Mb/s and I usually real get speeds 15-25Mb/s vs.
~20Mb/s for madwifi.

Amit, if you are reporting that you get 1 Mbps because that is what
iwconfig tells you then that doesn't mean you are using 1 Mbps. We have
to fix the rate used in ath9k as reported by ath9k. To really test the
throughput please use iperf.

Hi Luis, Kevin,
Actually I'm reffering to problem related to "ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready". I'm was testing WMP300N v2 on kernel 2.6.25/27 (with compat & ath9k) and also on the latest wireless-testing kernel. I'm facing same problem on both the kernels. The card is not coming up & even if it comes up not stable. I see above mentioned message in dmesg.. If I do iwconfig in kernel 2.6.25/27 I'll see the ssid is missing & even I tried manually to set essid it will not work & there will be no associated AP. However in wireless-testing I can see the ssid however no associated AP. The network does not work. I've to restart the system or some time ifdown/up the network.
I understand from Thread that iwconfig will not give us the right spped at this moment.
cheers,
-amit-

Just to add to below, when this message appears in dmesg, I was unable to find any wifi network even using iwlist wlan0 scanning.

Did you try ifconfig wlan0 up? You only get your link up *when you are
associated*. You need *interface up* (ifconfig wlan0 up) to be able to
scan.
Just checking.

Hi Luis,
I tried 'ifup wlan0' or iwconfig essid "myeesid" (in case of kernel 2.6.26/27), it does not help.
