hi

A friend of mine has just bought a brand new Asus laptop, equiped with
an Intel 82801fb.
We're having lots of troubles with this card, and still we couldn't
get it working. We previously tried with azm module and then with alsa
1.0.9's hda driver. both modules load correctly, alsamixer works, but
absolutely no sound comes out from the speakers.
I was missing one thing: when loading the hda module it says:
hda_codec.c:512:
hda_codec.c: no AFG node found

Any help?
thanks

This message is mostly harmless. The driver detected the modem codec
in the tree, which isn't supported yet. In the latest version, this
message is suppressed. The serious message is "no codecs
initialized". If this message appears, the driver won't work at all.

If the driver is loaded and doesn't complain like above, the silent
problem is likely the wrong PIN assignment.
For ALC880 codec (you can check it in /proc/asound/card0/codec#*
file), try a different "model" module option. See
ALSA-Configuration.txt for details. Make sure that you use the
latest 1.0.9rc4!

If none of models matches your device, try to build drivers with debug
option and set model=test. This will enable almost all available
controls for testing. Check different PIN configurations via
alsamixer, and report it to here together with the content of
/proc/asound/card0/codec#* files.

Hi

Thanks for your reply.
We could do some testing yesterday, but they were unsuccessful.

As you told us, we downloaded 1.0.9rc4 and compiled modules from that.
We tried all the possible models using module=3jack in the modprobe
command, but noone of them worked.
Then we tried making modules with debug enabled, and modprobing with
module=test.
With an aplay going in another session we tried all the possible pin
combinations, but we got no output.

As you requested, in case of failure, I'm attaching the proc file.

I hope we can solve this issue.

Thank you very much.

Are you sure that you unmuted the volumes correctly?

Grr, it's again a broken BIOS. It doesn't initialize the PIN
assignment correctly... So you have to find out the PIN assignment by
yourself.
