Hi John,

First of all Neil was wrong when he said that this list for for 9k
chipsets only. That's not true.
If you go to
http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/ath9k#supported_chipsets
you can see that ath9k supports also some 5k chipsets.

Second you can check http://www.linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers
and note that both ath5k ath9k support master or AP mode.
I don't know which ones you are using.

I compiled and installed compat-wireless and I'm currently using ath9k
and I have had no problem. I'm guessing that you probably tried to
change operation modes using iwconfig. If you did so it does not work.
To run ath9k in ap mode I use hostapd and specify driver=nl80211 in the
hostapd.conf.

Try using hostapd. If you are still having problems please post a mail
with more comments.
I've always found good help here on the mailing list. The developers of
ath9k have been doing an amazing job and the reply that you received
from Neil doesn't reflect the behaviour of this mailing list.

Best Regards
Rodolphe Marques
