Hi,
What efforts could be needed in order to make IBSS-RSN working on ath10k <--> ath10k links? Is there anybody working actively on it?

Alessandro

We did basic testing/implementation using ath10k/ath9k, wpa_supplicant
and main (636) firmware and qca6174.
Latest code already have WIPHY_FLAG_IBSS_RSN set, so I expect this
should work. Some FW issues could be still possible :)

Ok, great!
Can you also tell me if is it everything working correctly with IBSS-RSN, such as VHT?

VHT was well tested for IBSS-open, so I suspect should woks fine also for RSN.
But we did only basic tests.

Do you know if is it needed Ben Greear's firmware in order to run IBSS-RSN or is it also supported on official firmware?

Dear all,

Recently, I bought some WLE900VX cards and equipped several computers
with such cards.
I want to check the capabilties of these cards, so I have thought of
establishing an AD-HOC 802.11ac link in order to do so.
I have been able to establish and AD-HOC connection between two of these
cards, but I am sure I am not establishing an 802.11ac connection
because the iwlist tool only reports bit rates up to 54Mb/s for the
established connection.
I would be very grateful if someone could provide me some hints on
configuring these cards to work using the 802.11ac and to check that the
connection using such protocol has been established.

Thank you very much in advance for your time and attention,

With kind regards,

You should use 636 firmware and lastes wpa_supplicant. Wpa_supplicant
will setup AC correctly (iw don't support this yet). After connected,
check if you have correct BW (80MHz) using:
iw wlan0 info

Next you can run some traffic eg. using iperf and check RX rate using:
iw wlan0 station dump.

Dear Janusz,

By firmware 636, do you mean the one named 999.999.0.636 in the url:
https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/ath10k/firmware?
And then, if I use wpa_supplicant could it be possible to setup an ADHOC
connection.
I thought wpa_supplicant is used to setup STAs in combination with
hostapd (to setup APs).

Thank you very much for your time and attention,

Kind regards,

Jorge

My firmware does support IBSS, and it has at least some support for IBSS-RSN.

My notes indicate that I had ath10k <-> ath9k IBSS-RSN working, but for one reason
or another, I did not have a stable ath10k <-> ath10k IBSS-RSN connection.

There are encrypted virtual devices that one can use on top of un-encrypted
IBSS connections, so maybe that is the best solution in the meantime.

I'd be interested to know if someone did have a stable ath10k <-> ath10k IBSS-RSN on
the .636 firmware.

I will be trying to enable AMSDU support on IBSS sometime soon, so I'll run
some more tests then.

Thanks,
Ben

Hi Ben,

I'm trying to run your firmware on my Mikrotik NetMetal device, which features a QCA9882 radio card, but it can't be loaded.

If you can help me I can provide you my dmesg log.

Oggetto: Re: IBSS-RSN support on ath10k only links

My firmware does support IBSS, and it has at least some support for IBSS-RSN.

My notes indicate that I had ath10k <-> ath9k IBSS-RSN working, but for one reason or another, I did not have a stable ath10k <-> ath10k IBSS-RSN connection.

There are encrypted virtual devices that one can use on top of un-encrypted IBSS connections, so maybe that is the best solution in the meantime.

I'd be interested to know if someone did have a stable ath10k <-> ath10k IBSS-RSN on the .636 firmware.

I will be trying to enable AMSDU support on IBSS sometime soon, so I'll run some more tests then.

Thanks,
Ben

Please do post logs..and let me know what OS and kernel version you are using.

I'm not sure it is ever actually trying to load my firmware.

At the least, it is named quite a bit differently than the main
kernel does things.

You might ask around on the openwrt list(s)...I know there are folks that
are using my firmware on openwrt.

Thanks,
Ben
