Booting An Ultra Sparc 10

hi just wanted to install on an ultra sparc 10
(300mhz ultra II with 320mb ram)
i'm doing the load with boot net
form an intel redhat 5.0 (p2)

i shows linux 2.1.99 (or the .old image or .verryold)
320mb ram
and that i use the ati controller (there is also an creator 3d inside,
but the monitor is on the oboard card)

and it crashes :

Stephan,

You can make the Open Boot Prom skip the on-board graphics controller by 
doing the following:

At the ok prompt type the following:

1) ok " setenv pcib-probe-list 1,3 "

       {This will mask out device "2"(m64b@2)on motherboard, and
        force the system to use the PCI graphics card instead.}
        
2) ok " reset "    

        {This will store new entry into the nvram, so the PCI card 
        is the console boot device.}

That should work - we do that in our lab to test other graphics cards.

nah i use the onboard video now (ati)
the 3d card (Creator 3d) is not attached at all to an monitor (i still
have to get an converter to 15pins vga for my hitachi svga monitor)

so i have to take this card out ?

Known problem, should be fixed tomorrow by new kernel images in
ultrapenguin-1.0.9. I bet you have the hme+scsi card installed...

I don't know the card, I could not find information on it on www.sun.com.
Is there some place to find what scsi chip is on the card?

can i just plugin a pc scsi card /ethernet (ncr/adaptec/3com)
pci card ?

and are these supported by the kernel ?
(can i use a 3com 3c900 (100mbit tcpip))

Well, it might and might not work. The issue is that if the adapter needs to
be initialized by the on-card BIOS, you'll be in big trouble: Ultra10 has no 
Intel emulator nor is it currently implemented in Linux kernel.
That's one thing. The other thing is that you need to hack up a bit the
driver, at least check it if it is 64bit clean and does not use any
intelisms.

It doesn't need BIOS code to run, all 3com cards work on my Cobalt
qube and we don't do any Intel emulation for PCI cards ;-)

It is just a matter of one of us getting the time to do the (perhaps)
minimal porting work to get it going.

As of right now aic7xxx, ncrxxx, and Tulip PCI cards all work just
fine on UltraPenguin.

It turns out these networking cards only need Intel BIOS code to run
when you want to netboot using one of them.

All these are then supported. I was wondering about the hme + scsi card,
PROM says it has hme, ebus, and isptwo on it. I was wondering what isptwo
could be...
