In many cases, this can be prevented by using xe_root_mmio_gt instead of
xe_device_get_gt.  Add guards for all other cases.

Static analysis reveals the following issue:
xe_device_get_gt is theoretically able to return NULL in some cases, but
several use cases don't check the return value before performing a
dereference, resulting in a NULL pointer dereference.

Add guards against this in xe_sriov_vf.c:
- Use xe_root_mmio_gt instead of xe_device_get_gt for the gt id 0 case.
- Assert the return value of xe_device_get_gt when this is not possible.

We already initialize a
struct xe_gt *gt = xe_device_get_gt(xe, eci.gt_id)
in xe_hw_engine_lookup to ensure the given gt_id is valid.
We don't need to call xe_device_get_gt again to pass the same gt to
xe_gt_hw_engine in xe_hw_engine_lookup.

xe_device_get_gt is theoretically able to return NULL in some cases, but
several use cases don't check the return value before performing a
dereference, resulting in a NULL pointer dereference.

Use xe_assert to assert root_gt is not NULL before dereferencing it.

While we're here, replace xe_device_get_gt(xe, 0) with the equivalent
call xe_root_mmio_gt(xe).  There's no reason to use the flexible
xe_device_get_gt function when we're only always tring to get GT0 here.

The xe test code expects GT0 to always be available as a part of the
test setup, so there's no reason to use xe_device_get_gt over
xe_root_mmio_gt, especially since the former may fail in some cases.
Replace all instances of xe_device_get_gt(xe, 0) with
xe_root_mmio_gt(xe) in the xe test code.

I really have my doubts if the tool will understand this or you will end up
anyway having to mark that as false positive.

Let's just mark as false positive in the tool and move on.

I really don't believe this is what they suggested.
I had understood that the suggestion was to mark the case as false
positive in the tool.

This case here highlights a big problem with this series, that is the
Michal's comment that was ignored.

event_supported doesn't care about the mmio. it is not getting the gt
because of the mmio area. It is a case where it will receive an id
and you need to lookup for the id and see if that GT exists or not.

That has nothing to do with the mmio itself.

I echo Michal comment on have 2 variants, when that get_gt that never
returns NULL and you mark cases like false positive.

And another variant for lookup-gt where it can return NULL and you need
to check. Intended for cases like this PMU that has nothing to do
with MMIO.
