I have re-installed bluez. The setup works well as
before until a client bluetooth is downed or is temporarily
out of range. The server, then freezes with the console
going blank.

I tried using Bluetooth on Windows/XP Professional with the
same results.

Is there an older version of bluez that does not do this ?

[Bluez-users] pand freezes upon disconnect

Hello
My bluetooth server is Slackware 9.1 and my client is WindowsXp.I 
perfectly share the internet connection between them.My pand command 
is 'pand -s -M --role NAP -z' , but when i close the connection from 
windows, i see that slackware freezes.Any comments?

what kernel version is this? What version of the BlueZ packages are
installed? Are there any oopses?

this looks very good and I tried to reproduce it, but using Debian Sid
with kernel 2.6.9-rc2 I am unable to create a PAN connection from a
Windows XP SP2 machine using your pand command line. What must I do to
reproduce it?

it got a connection between the Windows machine and my Debian Laptop and
I don't see any freezes. The laptop keeps working.

And btw the command "sdptool add NAP" is not needed. The pand will
register the SDP service record by itself.

switch to the console or use netconsole and see if there are any oopses
on your Linux machine. Update to the 2.6.9-rc2-bk8 kernel.

I found the ff:

1. Installed bluez NAP server on another Linux-2.6.8.1-mm4-mh2
with nobridge-router-nofirewall-bluez. Result: When client
disconnects the server does NOT FREEZE.

2. Installed bluez NAP server on various versions of
Linux-2.6.8.1-mm4-mh1 && mh2; Linux-2.6.8.1-mh1 && mh2 on

When client disconnects the server FREEZES in any combination.

3. Using any setup in item 2, I can disconnect a client without
freezing the server if I disable bluetooth by "rmmod" up till
uhci_hcd at the server first. Then, I reloaded the modules
to restart pand server so I get the client reconnected
successfully.

With these processes, I got the following logs on the server:

I think this is a problem in the Linux bridge code. Please report this
to the bridge mailing list or the netdev mailing list.

I installed linux suse 9.1 professional
it ships the kernel 2.6.4-52

I can't compile bluez (other message posted to the
users and developer's list), so I'm thinking that the
problem could be the kernel version 

Have I to update the kernel to version 2.6.5-7.108
(from suse archive)?

Or other patch/versions are available?

After I installed Fedora core 2, the bluetooth stuff worked out of the
box. The latest kernel FC2 has is 2.6.8

Also someone there on the list told he installed fresh RedHat9. Not very good
move, unless there were some other important reasons why RH9. RH9 is not
supported by RedHat anymore and most of the rpm-packaging volunteers
has changed to Fedora and "supports" it.

Updating to the above kernel release has fixed bluez server's
problem of freezing when client disconnects disappeared.

go for the upcoming SuSE Linux 9.2 release, because this will have the
latest Bluetooth kernel and userspace code.
