Hi just an intermidiate report,
cause it's with 2.4.20-dm-2
(i'm rebuilding now with dm-7)

when i try to mount a xfs filesystem wich is on
lv over soft raid-0, i'm getting just like in
2.5.2x - 2.5.4x (i didn't try later kernels) :

############################
raid0_make_request bug: can't convert block across chunks or bigger than 16k
25181311 4
raid0_make_request bug: can't convert block across chunks or bigger than 16k
25181343 4
############################

is this know problem, is it fixed ?
i thought that the problem exist only in 2.5 kernel

Regards,

svetljo

any hints for testing, debuging?

is it the same with the ac kernels?
( or may be does smbd have a ac kernel with xfs , i want to test it
but ac doesn't have xfs support :( )

I seem to remember that there's some option you have to give to XFS to tell it
to align the journal or something. you may have to search the LVM and/or XFS
archives for it.

Sorry that's a bit vague but I don't use XFS but I do remember a thread like
this some time ago.

a google search "raid0_make_request bug" gives a lot of results
(mainly my post on 2.5 problems)

do you mean :
http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/linux/linux-kernel/2002-14/0127.html

it didn't help me a lot under 2.5

It should help on 2.4. There's also a parameter to the mkfs.xfs (which is what I
actually meant but which is probably harder to find!) that has a similar effect
but you probably need to recreate the FS.

Whether this "fix" helps on existing FSs I don't know. You'll probably be better
asking on the XFS lists really.

do you think it's only xfs related,
if i remmember correctly it's not only xfs problem

i'll check later with reiser and jfs

I'm fairly sure it was just XFS. It makes (to us) odd assumptions about the
alignment of the journal or something.

I've been running reiser over LVM2 for AGES !

may be i should try this patch:
http://cgi.cse.unsw.edu.au/~neilb/patches/linux-stable/2.4.leading/2003-01-06:00/015RaidSplit
after i check reiser and jfs

> I've been running reiser over LVM2 for AGES !
over soft raid-0 ?

No, true. I did try it once though :)

no problems at the first check,
transfered ~10Gb to and from the LV useing jfs and reiser

but with xfs got this:
mkfs.xfs --
device-mapper: unknown block ioctl 0x6424
device-mapper: unknown block ioctl 0x6424

and with mount again :

raid0_make_request bug: can't convert block across chunks or bigger than 16k
213164570 4
raid0_make_request bug: can't convert block across chunks or bigger than 16k
213164602 4

so let's try the patch :(
