[Bluez-users] Socket G card newbie Q

Hi, y'all,

I'm trying to get my socket CF G card to work in my pcmcia slot.  Just trying
to get to the point where I can do an hci scan.  From what I've been able to
glean from the list and howtos, this is my approach:

  1. pcmcia-cs loads G card as serial_cs (minicom on ttyS0 shows a packet
     coming in every half-second or so, but I don't know what baud rate
     I should be using, nor what HCI packets look like, so I can only assume
     that it's correct)

  2. All bluez support built in to kernel (2.6.3-mm2, 2.4.25, 2.4.20 all
     tried with same results)

  3. hciattach ttyS0 csr 230400
     Responds: "Initialization timed out."

Anybody care to kick me a step further in the right direction on this sunny
southern California afternoon?

you should use "hciattach ttyS0 bcsp 230400", because the Socket card
uses the BCSP transport protocol.

The other day you said:

And the list seems to indicate that the F card is BCSP and the G card is CSR.
That said, using bcsp yields:

  $ hciattach ttyS0 bcsp 230400
  BCSP initialization timed out

Am I mistaken about the F/G distinction?  Am I correct in using the normal
serial_cs driver in the PCMCIA cardmgr?  Is there something I can run directly
at the serial port that will give me a more verbose dialog than "initialization
timed out", which might indicate some level of partial success?  Could it
be that there's a new G card series out there -- these are brand spankin' new
cards?

a CSR chip can also use BCSP ;)

May this is the problem with some serial cards and 2.6. Try 2.4 instead.

The revision E and F are Nokia based cards and they need the dtl1_cs
driver. The revision G contains a CSR chip with BCSP.

Progress.  2.4.25 produces different behavior:

First time loading it says:
bcsp_recv: Out-of-order packet arrived, expected 1 got 0

Second time loading it says:
Unknown device type or id

In 2.4.20, it always says "Unknown device type or id".

So two questions:

  1) Is there maybe a new G card device id out there, or should I be using
     some other bluez than that which ships with 2.4.25?

  2) Is there a patch for the 2.6 serial problem?

this is ok. You can ignore this message.

This looks like that your command parameters are wrong.

You need to have BCSP enabled for the hci_uart module.

The 2.4.25 should be fine.

Not that I know of. Some cards are working and some are not.

Ah, what I didn't notice when it said this is that it was working!  I have an
"up" hci0 for the first time.  An hcitool scan sees my headset.  Groovy!
2.4.25 works.

Yeah, I can't actually repeat this in 2.4.25 now.  Dunno what I did a minute
ago.

Now that I have it going, I'll look into this and see if I can figure out
what's going on.  If I figure it out, I'll send a patch to -devel.
